If you look at the teams that are best in your state, you will find that they all have one thing in common, and that is team chemistry.Coaches know that it is some thing that can't be taught in practice, but it is something that happens over a period of time by playing them together.
So how do you go about winning a state soccer title? Their are different opinions on how you go about doing this. One of them,if it is possible, is to start them playing together while they are still in kindergarden, and have them play different sports together as they grow, including soccer. This is done so that they will learn not only different skills, but also each others reactions to different situations.
This is done to build their confidence, because it doesn't matter what place they finish in, because all they will remember is that they had fun playing.
As they grow to be teenagers there will be one house wher they all will congregate most at, because that house will have plenty of soda and pizza on friday nights.
They will grow up attending each others birthdays, confirmations, and barmitzvahs and also all other holiday celebrations.
By hanging out together they will learn what makes each other tick. They will also celebrate when a fellow player is recognized for his or her achievments in sports or academics.
As a coach, another way to develop comradarie among older players is to socialize more as a team together. For example attend major league baseball games, have friday night pizza parties or go to a soccer game played by older players in order to learn new techniques or even spend a day at the zoo. This way the players get to know each other better in non playing situations. This will relate to better communication and trust on the field.
The more that they socialize together, you will see better efficient practices which in turn will lead to more wins. The more wins that you get, the more you will see their confidense develop on the field. You will see the difference in their talk, their walk and most of all in their attitude. This will get you what you set out to accomplish, team chemistry. These same players will respect the coaches and their staff, because of the time and and effort that they know that the staff put in teaching them to be winners. The players know that without them they woulsn't be number one.

Nick, I agree with you. Having coached, played sports and watching my kids play, the bond needs to be there for the team to connect during a game. Good advice.J L,Thanks for your nice comment on my soccer article.Nick
